Do we learn when reading?

I like reading. I read a lot about business models, value-based pricing, branding, marketing, sales, leadership, design, user experience, programming,...

Does it mean though that I learn? Not so sure.

I am aware that I forget most of the things I read about. Yes, some of the things I learn stay, I guess the best ideas, or at least the ones that resonate with me but many of them they are gone within the next hour.

For the last few years, I’ve been reading and listening to a lot from Chris Do — CEO & Founder at The Futur. If you are interested in challenging important aspects of your business read or watch some of the stuff he shares on youtube.

Anyway, today I’m talking about something I learned from him the other day.

He states that to learn, to properly learn you have to

  • read/watch
  • reflect
  • articulate (write something about what you just reflected)
  • share (teach it, make a tweet or a blog post)

So to properly learn what we read, we need to reflect and articulate it somehow in writing (for example) and share it.

This is the reason I will start writing and sharing here and on my LinkedIn what I read and watch.

You can follow @theChrisDo here in medium even though he is more active on other social networks.
